April 19, Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL(Contemporary Amperex Technology Co.，Limited), announced at the press conference of the Shanghai Auto Show that the energy density of mass production capacity will be 500 Wh / kg this year.

Different from liquid electrolyte lithium-ion batteries and all-solid electrolyte batteries, according to Wu Kai, the new generation of condensed matter batteries in the CATL uses high power bionic condensed matter electrolyte, high specific energy positive electrode, new negative electrode and battery diaphragm, which can strike a balance between high specific energy and high safety.

As the latest achievement of material and material system innovation in CATL, the condensed matter battery in CATL will be used first in the field of manned aviation.

‘We are working on the collaborative development of the civilian electric manned aircraft program, implementing aviation-level standards and tests to meet aviation-grade safety and quality requirements, and will also launch a vehicle-level application version that will have mass production capacity within this year.’Wu Kai said.
